Welcome to Latin Dancing! 🎉
Everything you need to know to get started on your dance journey
Getting Started
Latin dancing is an incredible way to meet people, stay active, and express yourself. The DFW area has a vibrant dance community with events happening almost every night of the week.
Whether you're interested in the energetic rhythms of Salsa, the romantic moves of Bachata, or the sensual flow of Kizomba, there's something for everyone.
Popular Dance Styles
Salsa
Fast-paced and energetic, salsa is perfect for those who love upbeat music. It's a partner dance with lots of turns and footwork.
Bachata
Romantic and sensual, bachata is slower than salsa and great for beginners. The basic step is easy to learn and the music is beautiful.
Kizomba
Smooth and intimate, kizomba originated in Angola. It features close connection and flowing movements.
Merengue
The easiest to learn! Simple marching step makes it perfect for absolute beginners. Often taught at the start of socials.
Common Questions
Do I need a partner?
No! Most people come to socials alone. It's expected that you'll dance with many different partners throughout the night. This is actually the best way to improve and meet people.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you can move in. For shoes, avoid sneakers with rubber soles as they can stick to the floor. Dance shoes, dress shoes, or smooth-soled shoes work best. Many dancers bring a change of shoes.
How do I ask someone to dance?
Simply approach them, make eye contact, and ask "Would you like to dance?" It's that simple! Don't be afraid of rejection - everyone gets turned down sometimes (they might be tired or taking a break).
Should I take classes first?
Not necessary, but recommended! Many socials offer a beginner lesson before the social dancing starts. This is a great way to learn the basics in a low-pressure environment.
